I've asked God for a word for 2010. It seems to me the Lord is saying to me and to the congregation I pastor the words "Be Strong!"
I think that means we are to be strong in our Christian faith. We're to be strong in our Christ-like conduct. We're to be strong in our morals and ethics. We're to be strong in our service for the Lord. We're to be strong in our giving to the things that matter for eternity. We're to be strong in influencing others for Christ.
These are challenging times. Things like job losses, economic downturns, health issues and family struggles can bring a great deal of stress into our lives. However, I want to encourage you to be strong. God is our provider and will see us through. Our responsibility is to keep our faith and trust in Him.
There are many admonitions in the Bible that remind us to be strong. Here are just a few:
"Be strong and courageous." Joshua 1:6
"Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous." Joshua 10:25
"Be strong and do the work." 1 Chronicles 28:10
"Be strong and do not give up." 2 Chronicles 15:7
"Be strong, do not fear." Isaiah 35:4
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power." Ephesians 6:10
I found 36 references in the Bible with this phrase: "Be strong." It sounds to me like the Lord is saying something to us. He repeats it for emphasis and to demonstrate its significance. Let's take this to heart and be strong in 2010!
