National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

This year's theme is Prayer...America's Hope. Hundreds of thousands of Americans will gather in tens of thousands of locations around the country to pray for our nation this Thursday, May 7.

Claudia and I have been privileged to observe the National Day of Prayer in Washington, D.C. the past two years. We were even invited to attend the gathering in the White House with President Bush. That was an experience we will never forget.

This year I have been asked to lead one of the prayers during the gathering at Southlake Town Center at noon. I want to encourage everyone who can, to find a location and attend one of the prayer gatherings. Some are early in the morning, some are during the day and some are in the evening.

Our nation needs prayer. We need God's wisdom, guidance, protection and blessing. There are seven specific points of prayer for which we pray: Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church and Family.

Let's join together on behalf of these important aspects of our society and pray fervently for spiritual renewal.
