It seems to me that many people in our society today have abandoned a good virtue. I'm referring to being considerate of others. The way people treat others either demonstrates this virtue or shows a lack of it.
I experienced several things in a hotel recently that reminded me of our need for consideration. Some guys next door to my room were annoyingly loud. They made no attempt to keep down the volume of their conversations, even at 1 a.m.! Thankfully the ear plugs I take with me on trips helped me get some sleep.
Many hotel doors are heavy and slam pretty hard when they shut. It would be more considerate if fellow travelers would close the door gently behind them instead of disturbing other guests.
As I was leaving the hotel, I was packing my motorcycle. A guy came out and started his diesel truck that was parked next to me. He let it run for about 10 minutes and the fumes were choking me. I finally had to move my bike so I would be able to breathe. He was oblivious to the air pollution he was causing.
None of the people to whom I've referred did anything illegal or necessarily wrong. But the Bible is filled with great admonitions that we could call "one another" passages. Showing common courtesy, kindness and plain old consideration to others are character traits that better reflect Jesus Christ. Let's be more like Jesus and be considerate of others.
