The Hassles and Rewards of Moving

I hate to move. Small boxes. Medium boxes. Large boxes. Heavy boxes. Dust. Garage sale. (Please, Lord, not another one.) Clean out. Sell furniture. Give away. Pack. Carry boxes. Hire movers. Call utility companies. Lots of address changes. Unpack. What a hassle!

Sometimes I wonder if it's worth all the work and all the trouble. And then I envision the new house. It will be brand new. It will be beautiful. We chose the floor plan, the carpet, the tile and everything about the house. It will be just the way we want it. It will be perfect for our family.

Life is like that. We go through trials and difficulties and challenges and hard work. We sometimes wonder if it's worth it. And then we imagine what heaven will be like. Eternity with our heavenly Father. We remind ourselves that all we have to go through is worth it. This is all temporary. High gas prices. Health challenges. Relationship problems. All of it is temporary. As believers in Jesus Christ, we'll be in heaven someday.

Paul helps us keep things in perspective. He reminds us in Philippians 3:20, "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ."

Whatever you are going through, "it will be worth it all, when we see Jesus."

Using Our Time

In the blogosphere, I'm certain that I have committed a major sin. It's been weeks since I posted anything on this site. I never intended to post daily, as many bloggers do. I just intended to post something at random times when I had something to say. In the case of my lack of recent posts, it's all about time, which is part of what we've been talking about on Sundays in the current series, "Avoiding Burnout and Achieving Balance."

Not to make excuses, but I was in Washington, D.C. for nearly two weeks recently for the National Day of Prayer events, the Family Research Council Pastor's Briefing and a few vacation days. I've been trying to "catch up" ever since. To complicate things further, our house sold while I was in D.C. and all my "spare time" lately has been consumed with trying to find a place to live temporarily and permanently. That, too, has pushed Pastor's Eddy's blog further down on the priority list.

Have you ever had good intentions but just didn't get some things done that you had planned to do? Sometimes it's because we're lazy. Sometimes it's because it's not important enough to us. Sometimes we have too much going on or we've made too many commitments than we have time to fulfill.

When life gets hectic and the schedules get too busy, the main thing to remember is that Jesus must be our center. He's not a piece of the pie. For those of us who are believers, He's the whole pie.

We can all feel guilty at times for not doing more - like neglecting a blog site. However, when you say "no" to one thing, you're saying "yes" to something else. Many things in life are important. Let's just make sure we're saying "yes" to the right things. And let's just hope my family and I never move again!
